New for the Week of July 25, 2010

WELCOME & THANKS: We welcome the Rev. Marty Levesque to ELAM this morning and thank him for bringing God's word to us through his message. Rev. Levesque is currently serving as Deacon Assistant at Christ Church, London. We express our sincere thanks to Marque Smith for providing musical accompaniment during our 10:00 a.m. service this week.

CLERGY VACATION: Rev. Anne will be away from ELAM this week preparing for her daughter’s wedding.

RECTOR'S DISCRETIONARY FUND: There is still time to contribute to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund for Wendy Proctor’s 5K walk. The cut-off date for contributions is July 30.  If you still wish to make a donation, please note “Rector’s Discretionary Fund” and your name and address or envelope number on your contribution envelope.  Give your envelope to Wendy Proctor or place it on the offering plate today. Thanks for your support of this Outreach Ministry. Wendy

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST THANKS: In the true spirit of ELAM, when help was needed the response was overwhelming!  Thank you to all who came to help and share in the fun of a community breakfast.  We had 112 guests this month.  Please come and share the experience.

BIRTHDAY THANKs: Wow, what a great 65th Open House Birthday Celebration we had last Saturday! Thanks to all who came out to make this special day such a success. We felt honoured & humble to see so many people. Thanks to all who donated food, money & gifts for St. Paul’s Daily Bread Programme. Also thanks to Doug Proctor & Jerry Prosser for delivering everything to St. Paul’s on Monday. Jerry used his truck which was completely full.
Thanks to all those that signed “our guest book” for all the cards and gifts we received and also for the flowers which mysteriously appeared by “our guest book”. We would like to thank all those that helped with planning this special occasion:

  • Laura – Preparing the invitations for email and regular mail.
  • Barb & Gwen – Making the table decorations, decorating the hall and preparing the picture display.
  • Helen – Providing the decorated slab cake and cup cakes.
  • The A.C.W. - Providing the food and serving the food during the “Open House”.
  • Sandra – Taking pictures
  • Victoria -  Being our “Hostess” for the afternoon.

We feel so blessed to belong to such a wonderful “Parish Family” who so willingly helped make our day a success. Love and God’s Blessings to you all, Maureen and Pat

Previous Announcements

MAIL/COURIER: As part of our arrangements with our accountant, each Thursday an envelope is sent to her by courier with items for her attention. This envelope, with a waybill attached and clearly marked that it is for pickup by the courier, is left in the mail box when the Secretary leaves for the day, and the courier picks it up sometime after 2:00 p.m. The completed work is returned to ELAM each Monday during office hours (or Tuesday is Monday is a holiday), also by courier. We have a standing order with the courier company for these pickups and deliveries, and if changes are necessary we must call them. Recently, as has happened on occasion in the past, the envelope intended for pickup by the courier was removed from the mail box and returned to the church office. While we appreciate that the person who did this intended to be helpful, the result was that the accountant did not receive the package to work on which caused a delay in getting it back to us, and we were charged a failed pick fee in addition to having to pay the regular charge to send the package to our accountant on Monday. We would request that, if you come to the church and see a large brown envelope inside a plastic envelope and with a courier waybill taped to it in our mailbox, please leave it there as it is intended for pickup by our courier.

ST. STEPHEN'S ANNIVERSARY: St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church is celebrating its 60TH anniverary this year. On the Feast of St. Stephen, Sunday, August 1st at 10 a.m. the church service will featur Shiyr (the praise band that played at the Diocese's sesquicentennial service), with lunch following at $7.00 per person (RSVP 519-681-5153). There will also be a dedication of the Veterans Memorial Garden on Sunday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. These events are a reunion of all who have called St. Stephen's Memorial home. Please extend this invitation freely.

COFFEE: For the summer, coffee will be served between the 8:30 and 10 a.m. church services on most Sundays.

SUMMER KIDS' CHURCH: Starting July 11, a volunteer will be available to look after children during the 10:30 a.m. church service. There are also activity packs for kids who stay in church.

TRAVELLERS: Wherever you go this summer, we want to hear about it. Please send a postcard from your destination and let us know. In September, we will have a "prize" for those postcards that are the furthest, closest, funniest, most colourful, most interesting. Our address is ELAM, 2060 Dundas St. E., London, Ont., N5V 1R2

ALL ABOUT ARGYLE: This is a new community-based newsletter published by the City of London and distributed by various community partners, including us. This "one-stop shop" to community news and information about community programs and services is a must-read for anyone living in the area. This newsletter will be issued quarterly. The current edition is in the Voices of ELAM and on the Information Kiosk in the Gathering Space.

CRAFT SUPPLIES NEEDED, PART 1: Do you have a stash of craft supplies in your house? The Vacation Bible School and the Sunday School have a specific list of needs. If you might be interested in helping us out, please ask Lori for a list to see if you have something to share.

CRAFT SUPPLIES NEEDED, PART 2: I am looking for crosses to make Anglican prayer beads. They bring comfort to those going through a tough time and help some with their daily prayers. If you have one or several crosses up to 2 inches that you would like to donate, that would really help. Donna T.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY, PART 1: Whether to work behind the scenes or with the kids, we have a volunteer opening for you. Vacation Bible School will run from 8:30 am. to 5 p.m., Monday,  August 9, to Friday, August 13. You do not have to volunteer every day or all day -- although we won't turn you down for multiple shifts. Please contact Kim or Lori.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY, PART 2: Are you fond of children? Looking for a way to serve? The Sewing Club is in need of a reliable volunteer to look after two or three toddlers from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, starting in September. If you are interested, please call Jill or Noreen.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY, PART 3: Sunday School and Nursery helpers are needed on a rotating schedule to help out on Sunday mornings. Shea successfully did this in 2009-10 with the Nursery and volunteers were scheduled once every six weeks. We'd like to expand this into the Sunday School, so that our regular teachers have an opportunity to participate in the occasional worship service. If you can help out, please contact Kim, Lori or Shea.
